The tear that the Bombers are going through seems to have claimed its first victim; though the Bombers held court at home, Ty Vulpintaur suffered a rolled ankle through the fast-paced pre-game practice, pulling the foxtaur down for nearly a week.

The Sternwheelers continue to show a renaissance in their offense so far this season; though the position players are still as few as they were last year, the additions to the puzzle including rookie Takushi Niwa have really lit a fire in the Wheelers bench.

A frenzied mini home run derby sparked off in Long Beach, as seven players left the field tonight. Though the fans were disappointed with the pitching staff lately, as they seem to still show jet lag from the Waves move West.

The Pioneers were dealt a harsh blow by the Pikes, continuing their three-game slide that has shown each of their top starters faltering where just a game ago they were holding court. Could this be a weakness in the Arsenal of Freedom? The Pikes, however, seem to have cleared their initial jitters, coming back to .500 with a solid team effort.

The Tikis have had a rough go with the stadium issues they have been having, and while there is hope that it isn't affecting the team, the Tikis have failed to take advantage of the Pioneers' faltering, staying tied for first place. Michelle Baker provided the sole run for the home team, while the Pelicans played small ball. The highlight of the night was Ji Drewes coming off the bench in the 8th inning, hitting a 3-run blast into the tropical night that provided the winning runs for the Pelicans.

The Ravens have found themselves in yet another hole, much the same they had been in last season. There is still hope for them, but they are rapidly approaching the FLB record for losses to begin a season of 11, set back in 1995 by the now defunct Saratoga Mustangs.

Action Around the FLB: July 7

 A couple of crazy extra inning affairs as it took Wisconsin and Quad Cities 10 innings before one of them could finally break through. It was the Randalls who scored the game winning run and with it swept a key early season series versus the River Rats. Meanwhile up in Winnipeg, it was Hawaiian who pulled away in a 12 inning score-a-thon, to sweep the Pikes 12-9. New Orleans took an important game and Portland dropped only it's second game of the year, losing to Charleston 5-3. Bracebridge continues their tear, dominating a floundering Washington team 9-1.

Action Around the FLB: July 6

 In a surprise shutout, the Charleston Swamp Foxes handed Portland their first loss of the season. Officials had been worried about this series due to the effects of Hurricane Arthur, but fortunately the impact has been minimal and the field was in much better shape than the night prior which was a bog-fest. Elsewhere, Bracebridge remains the sole unbeaten franchise after taking out a struggling Washington team. Ravens fans were not hushed about their displeasure in their team's early season performance either. The Wisconsin-Quad City series has been one of the more entertaining matchups so far this season. The Randalls have already taken the series, but the games have been close and competitive, and even rowdy at some points. One River Rats' fan had to be escorted from the stadium after he lept onto the field in the bottom of the 5th and confronted the third base umpire after a questionable call. There are all the signs of a rivalry in the making between these two.

Action Around the FLB: July 5

Wisconsin gets over the hump, defeating Quad City to earn the Randalls their first victory of the season and the first for franchise since their move to the Upper Midwest. Elsewhere, by the narrowest of margins Washington remains winless, falling to the undefeated Bombers 8-7. Portland also remains undefeated, taking down the Swamp Foxes. In a pair of highly entertaining, critical early season series New Orleans took the lead over Omaha and the Tikis shutdown Winnipeg it what was a pitcher's duel.

Action Around the FLB: July 4

 Portland and Bracebridge continue to impress in the early turns of the season, sweeping their respective series. A close game between Omaha and Hawaii evened the series at 2 a piece after a masterful piece of pitching by the Meadowlark bullpen. The struggles continue for Washington and Wisconsin who are currently winless. There were plenty of fireworks this 4th of July in the FLB!

The River Rats won their opening series with a pitching gem, with Phil O'Quinn pitching a complete game shutout, striking out eight Long Beach players in the process and holding them to just four hits. Phil was helped out by a pinch-hit grand slam by Craig Jones.

Pioneers fans were delighted with another gem from a rookie pitcher. Patrick Pengunator struck out 10 Ravens for a complete game, helping to facilitate the sweep of the Ravens thanks in large part to the Pioneer's solid rotation.

It was a tight game for a while in New Orleans, with the Wheelers pulling ahead 4-2 in the sixth until a rally sparked by Terry Simpson's solo home run helped the home team come out on top, scoring four in the sixth and helping the Pelicans pull out the win.

The Swamp Foxes had a tremendous surge in offense this game, but it wasn't enough when Jenny Price had the game of her career, hitting two home runs to score 6 by herself. The Pikes knocked Julio Salazar out in just 2 2/3 innings, tagging him for 8 runs.

Tanya Baskerville's first start of the season showed the same dominating stuff that she has been producing the last three years that included the Van Hoover in 2012; holding her own in a pticher's duel with R. Ryian where she sent 8 Tikis packing, even as Ryian racked up seven himself. But ultimately the 'Larks squeaked by with a sac fly in the 6th to pull out the tie for the series.

The Randalls tried their hardest on a hard-rocking offensive game, with four home runs on the game combining for 9 of their 15 runs, but the Bombers hit everything that was thrown at them and more, led by Jirik Utsu's two home runs for 6 RBI, sweeping the Randalls out.

Action Around the FLB: July 3

Portland and Bracebridge continue their early season dominance, both extending their perfect records to 3-0, both will wrap up their respective four game season-opening series today. Meanwhile, it seems that folks in Washington state do have reason to be concerned after the Ravens dropped its first three games. For the past couple weeks rumors about conflicts amongst the management have swirled around the Pacific Northwest club, but have all been shot down by the league office. Still, the Ravens are off to a tough start and the schedule doesn't get any easier as they face undefeated Bracebridge once the series with Portland concludes today.

Luiz Marquez may have had a slow beginning... for the first two games of the season, but the cougar showed why he was the front runner for the MVP award last year, reaching base on all of his at-bats tonight. The night proved to be a tough first start for rookie Sandy Viper-Roberts, tacking her for 4 runs in 5.1 innings.

Kumiho "Kyu-Ball" Kakashi, prize pickup from the NFPB, wowed the home crowd and the Ravens alike, fanning 14 as the home team cruised to a win on the back of the kitsune pitcher. Young Sabina Zula helped to add to that win, hitting a 3-run home run in the 4th.

The Pikes rocked Charleston's Alan Baker today, knocking the lemur out with just 2.2 innings with 7 runs in a rocking 3rd inning that saw the Pikes send a total of 14 at bats that inning with nine hits.

Though Paco Salazar had a great game for the Meadowlarks, the Tikis charged to a win, backing up rookie pitcher Ketch Renner who shook off a two-run inning to go into the sixth for the Tikis and letting the bullpen hold fort.

The Bombers continued their tear, this time on the shoulders of Boris Ritter. Ritter, who was often in the voting for the Van Hooven award for his career until languishing in the River Rats' bullpen for the 2013 season spun a gem of a complete game tonight, fanning 8 while only letting two across home plate.
